Honda to Release All-New CRF450R, CRF450RX

Entire 2017 CRF competition dirt-bike lineup announced

 

TORRANCE, CA – August 11, 2016 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – On the 15th anniversary of Honda’s original 450cc class four-stroke motocross model, Honda announces a revolutionary CRF450R that promises to be the most powerful, best-handling Honda motocross machine ever. Honda’s no-compromises approach to designing and developing the new bike was intended to put it at the front of the pack in all areas of performance, resulting in what Honda is calling the “Absolute Holeshot.”

 

Since its 2002 introduction, the CRF450R has earned an enviable racing pedigree, and the 2017 edition is the best yet, with superior technology and style. Riders know that the most important part of any motocross race is the start, and the new CRF450R Unicam® engine has been developed to achieve overwhelming performance in the first 100 feet of battle, offering increased power output but also allowing unparalleled traction. And while arriving to turn one first is significant, winning requires staying in front for the entire moto, which is why Honda engineers designed an all-new chassis with reduced weight and centralized mass. The result is a machine that is at once fast, reliable and forgiving, and that allows riders to more easily extract maximum performance, consistently turning low lap times while simultaneously taxing their bodies less.

 

In addition, Honda is offering a brand-new model, the CRF450RX, which is based on the 2017 CRF450R but with a number of differences that make it appropriate for closed-course off-road racing like the GNCC series. Honda also took the opportunity to announce the remainder of its 2017 model-year CRF competition dirt bike model line, including the CRF250R and CRF150R motocross bikes and CRF450X and CRF250X off-road motorcycles.

CRF450R
Everything about the new-from-the-ground-up 2017 CRF450R is designed for the absolute holeshot. A new Unicam engine offers increased power and torque across the rev range, thanks in part to an ultra-direct downdraft air intake, steeper valve angle and twin exhaust system with smoother routing. The chassis boasts new geometry and packaging that results in a more concentrated, lower center of mass, helping to get the power to the ground, maximize stability and improve cornering performance. The lighter aluminum frame has a narrower cross-section and a lighter, extruded aluminum rear subframe. The motorcycle is equipped with a coil-spring 49mm Showa fork, while the rear suspension comprises a lighter swingarm assembly and a shock with a lower mounting position. Dunlop Geomax MX3S tires come standard, and the CRF450R is the first mass-produced motocross bike ever to come with a titanium fuel tank. Electric start is available as an option.

CRF450RX
As a brand-new model, Honda’s CRF450RX boasts most of the features of its motocross-directed sibling, but in a package that’s designed for closed-course off-road riding and racing. Among the features that distinguish it from the CRF450R are a smoother ignition map and standard electric start (with kick-start backup), while chassis differences include off-road-focused suspension settings, a revised cylinder-head hanger and changed wheel hubs and axles. The CRF450RX also comes with off-road-appropriate components like a larger plastic fuel tank, forged-aluminum side stand, 18 inch rear rim and Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires, making it the ultimate weapon for events like those in the GNCC series.

CRF250R
The bike that Malcolm Stewart took to the 2016 AMA Supercross 250SX East Region title returns for 2017 with a 49mm track-tuned Showa SFF-Air TAC fork and Showa shock, both of which offer a wide spectrum of adjustment and are designed to work at the highest level. With a race-proven chassis and Honda’s exclusive twin-muffler design, which efficiently centers the mass, the CRF250R is renowned for its deft handling. The high-compression 249cc Unicam engine provides an impressive spread of horsepower throughout the entire rpm range, and the bike comes with an engine-mode-select button that allows for three different power maps: Standard, Smooth and Aggressive. CRF150R/CRF150RB
The only four-stroke machine in the competition mini motocross category, the CRF150R is what a young racer needs to achieve the next level. Currently campaigned in the amateur nationals by Amsoil Honda’s Carson Mumford, the CRF150R features a powerful-but-compact Unicam engine (based on those of the CRF250R and CRF450R) and race-tuned, fully adjustable Showa suspension, packaged in a track-designed chassis, all resulting in the highest level of performance. This model is available in a standard version and the CRF150RB, which accommodates bigger riders with its larger wheels, higher seat and longer swingarm.

yeah i don't see anything new about them... 5 speed trans and carbureted? look at that muffler still... I was actually excited for a second. Furthermore, why introduce some inbetweener model? CRF450RX? What a waste. Honda just keeps digging themselves deeper and deeper. sad really.

great step in the right direction Honda offering e-start on the R as an option and then providing an RX for use at off-track areas. Positive move!

I'm happy to see an "off-road racing" model, but the RX needs a headlight/tail light, or at least the stator to run them.

Simply "re-mapping" and adding a kickstand and 18" rear wheel ain't gonna cut it.

Great write up! Cant wait to run to the dealer and take a look! But no two strokes? No CR-350R two stroke, there is always next year.

the CRF450RX is hondas response to the yamaha YZ450FX. yamaha has the WR450F and honda has the CRF450X. next yamaha has the YZ450FX and then the CRF450RX. next the YZ450F and CRF450R. The CRF250RX will probably come out next year to compete with the YZ250FX as the CRF250X is like a WR250R.

i think its great that honda has been the first to offer e-start on a mx bike like the euro bikes have had for years.

      Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Billy Bolt Finishes Third at Hawkstone Park Cross-Country in Great Britain


       
      September 24, 2018 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Continuing his recent run of good form, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Billy Bolt once again showed his class in this year’s World Enduro Super Series to claim another podium finish with third at his home round of the championship. In doing so the young Brit moves to the top of the WESS standings with two rounds remaining. Further success for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team came from Bolt’s teammates Graham Jarvis and Alfredo Gomez who placed ninth and 10th respectively.
      Staged at the iconic Hawkstone Park venue the two-day event saw the 650 competitors entered kick things off with a Sprint Enduro qualification on Saturday. Utilising the legendary Motocross circuit and surrounding woodland, riders battled against the clock for position on the Motocross and Enduro special tests. Showing strong pace in the woods, Bolt put in impressive times to qualify an eventual third for Sunday’s two-and-a-half-hour Cross-Country race.
      Knowing the pace would be hot from the off, Bolt was quick to establish himself inside the top five of the 250 qualifiers. Using his ability to make light work of the technical climbs to his advantage, he moved himself up the leader board to place second at the mid-way point of the race. However, a couple of mistakes saw him lose some time, slipping back one position, but nevertheless he claimed a well-deserved third place result.
      For Graham Jarvis the Cross-Country nature of the race did not weigh in the Husqvarna rider’s favour. Determined to put on a good show for his home fans, the Erzbergrodeo winner pushed hard and despite suffering a bad start he steadily worked his way forward, gaining positions as the physical nature of the race took its toll on riders. He eventually finished in a hard-fought ninth.
      Also more accustomed to Hard Enduro terrain, Spaniard Alfredo Gomez had his sights set on a top-10 finish at Hawkstone. Although crashing off the start, he knew the sandy, woodland whoops would slow the field of riders as the race wore on. Feeling strong towards the end, he maintained a fast pace throughout to fight his way home for 10th.
      The World Enduro Super Series continues with round six at Sweden’s Gotland Grand National on October 26/27.
      Billy Bolt: “I knew my pace was good today but my plan was to just ride my own race and see where I finished. I knew Josep and Nathan would be fast so I wanted to stick to a steady rhythm and hopefully be not too far behind. I caught up to Nathan at one point and was a little stronger in some of the sections. I started to crash a little bit so just eased off a little and focused on claiming a safe third for the championship. The track was great, there was one rock-step that I was hitting quite hard and jumping – the crowd really loved it but then it started to get a bit gnarly, so I had to take it a little easier. The support from the fans was incredible – all the way around the track they were cheering and spurring me on. Finally, to be back on the podium and also leading the championship has capped off a great weekend’s racing.”

      Graham Jarvis: “I got a bit of a bad start and had to fight my way through the pack for most of the race. I’m happy with a top-10 and was getting faster towards the end of the race too – so that’s positive. I really enjoyed riding the 250 four-stroke – it’s probably the best bike around here and handles the ruts well when you get off-line. It’s always cool to ride a home race. Having the crowd cheering all the way around was a nice boost. Overall, I’m happy with how things have gone this weekend because my speed on both days was good, so that’s encouraging for the next one.”

      Alfredo Gomez: “That was a really tough race for me. I started well but came together with Lars Enockl in the first corner and went down. I was running close to last place and so I had to spend the race passing people right up to the end, where I fought through to 10th position. It was very physically tiring, but I am happy to get to the finish.”

      Kicking around the idea of selling my CR250. I have other bikes and never get a chance to ride this one.

      This is a well-maintained bike with tons of aftermarket parts. It's set up primarily for woods/single-track riding, but will still do just fine on an MX track.

      I guess this is kind of a novice question but may as well ask.  Does anyone have any little known tips/ secrets you used to get faster offroad/ enduro races.  I find that I mainly struggle with confidence in the wide open type stuff (40-45 mph) and cornering.  All help is appreciated😂 thanks.

      Okay so the title is a little vague. 
      So it was having trouble idling and even starting when I first bought it about a month ago for $2k. 
      So I did a rough clean of carb, looked up on YouTube, Forums, Etc on how to do it. I only cleaned jets with carb cleaner and sprayed around the float bowl area and such, so not too extensive.
      Did that and I took it out to a park, It would start up right away mostly, few kicks sometimes, but when I got it started, I had to keep the choke on. Right when I was ready to go fast and go up to 3rd and 4th gear I'd switch it off and it would work fine and sound fine and everything, but when I slowed back down and coasted around 1st gear i'd pop it back out again because it sounded like it was going to do. I have some videos if people would like me to link to them.
       
      So after that I decided to take it apart and replace spark plug with OEM NGK R0409B-8, replace main jet from a old 170 to a new 170, replaced pilot jet from a old 40 to a new 42, and kept starter jet the same just made sure that wasn't clogged, ordered a new adjustable fuel screw and used that.
      and it was still having a little bit of problems! I just started up today and the day before today. It would run only with choke on, if i twisted throttle in neutral it sounded pretty good, no gun shot noises or anything, pretty smooth. 
      If I tried to take choke off it would die immediately. So I started it back up again, took around 6 kicks.. So again with choke on it sounded like it was starting to lose power and RPM's would drop so I'd twist throttle a few times and it would stay idling.. then after a small amount of time, start to sound like its about to die again... so I would rev it up again, and repeat..
       
      Fuel line isn't clogged, flows fine.
      I tried fuel screw everywhere between 1 and 2 turns out..
      I checked valve clearances, and I'm no expert but from the videos I watched the slipped underneath intake and exhaust with only minor force.
      So I'm lost.. 
      Maybe float bowl is messed up? Should I just do a COMPLETE carb rebuild from videos I've seen on youtube, like this one -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AXb9UprT30? Or what? 
       
      It's getting annoying taking it apart all the time, I jsut want it to start up quickly and run well!!
