More Than Moto, #WeAreOffRoad

Wednesday, August 10, 2016 Irvine, CA — For those of you who believe there is more to off-road riding than 30 minutes, plus two laps, the 2017 Malcolm Smith Racing collection is for you. From the tight woods in the east to the wide open desert in the west and from the Canadian Rockies to the Baja Peninsula, MSR has you covered from head to toe, regardless of your riding style. The latest riding gear, including boots, gloves, goggles, pants, jerseys, jackets and helmets is featured in the new 140-page 2017 MSR Catalog.

“MSR gear is purpose-built for the serious off-road rider,” says MSR brand manager Brent Harden. “The guy who rides hard, hits trees, blasts through pucker bushes and bashes in skidplates needs apparel that will stand up to the harshest terrain and the worst conditions.” The aptly named “Summit” series is the top of the MSR line for 2017.

“The Summit jersey and pant lead the way of our Xplorer Series,” explains Harden. “It is ideal for everything from an all day ride to a multi-day adventure.” Highly durable materials are matched to trail-worthy features including cargo pockets in the pants and anti-abrasion materials on the jersey forearms — all designed with the goal of taking your next ride over the top.

The Ascent series is MSR's mid-range gear. “Ascent provides serious off-road riders with most of the features found in the heavy duty Summit line, but in a lighter weight and lower price,” points out Harden. Augmenting the Ascent and Summit series is the Cold Pro Jersey for when things get really nasty. Designed to eliminate heat loss, the Cold Pro utilizes poly thermal fabric with a plush fleece lining to keep the rider warm. “It is also perfect as a base layer under a jacket or waterproof shell like our Rove jacket.”

Combining modern technology with legendary style, the Legend 71 line pays homage to Malcolm Smith's timeless look without compromising on performance. “Malcolm is the man, and this gear had to live up to his legacy.” It may be old school but current Baja 1000 champions Colton Udall and Mark Samuels like it too!

For the rider looking for a more modern day look, the NXT is MSR's performance leading product line. “NXT is even better than before. It fits better, performs better and lasts longer than any race wear on the market,” says Harden. “And our NXT Air ventilated gear is our top performing hot weather product.” Just the thing for desert riders like Robby Bell.

MSR's Axxis basic riding gear still provides the best bang for the buck, according to Harden. “It is lightweight, comfortable and durable. It looks good and performs even better, but it won't break the bank.” Pretty much covers all the bases.

“Most people may not recognize the depth and breadth of the MSR range,” Harden adds. “With our Summit, Ascent, Legend 71, Waterproof Rove jacket and Undbound over pant, NXT, NXT Air and Axxis apparel, we have seven complete gear lines in multiple colorways.” Each of the individual gear lines are supported by three specific helmets, two styles of boots, chest protectors and a full range of accessories from tool pouches to Hydro Packs.

"MSR is more than just moto," concludes Harden. "We are a brand made up of riders, racers and enthusiasts who share one common goal: Improving your next ride. WE ARE OFFROAD!" Carson Giles and James Rhodes have been working hard to get their bike prepped to race on behalf of the ThumperTalk community in the Caselli Challenge this Friday at Glen Helen Raceway.
Carson shot us over this pic of the bike with its full custom graphics from the Folks at installed on all new Acerbis USA bodywork. We think they came out great!
Other parts include Malcolm Smith Racing (MSR) Impact handguards & skid plate, Boyesen Factory Racing Clutch & Ignition Covers as well as their SuperCooler kit.
The bike is sitting on an MSR Podium bikestand and we'll be setting sag at the track using Slacker Digital Sag Scales provided by the Folks at Motool. Of course, thanks to FMF and the Caselli Foundation for kindly reserving two race team slots for us!
