Malcolm Smith Racing Expands Hard Parts Collection With Lay-Over Stand

IRVINE, CA - April 13, 2016 - (Motor Sports Newswire) - While it may be an urban legend that Malcolm Smith once whittled a piston out of hard wood during one of his epic Baja adventures, it is totally true that necessity is the mother of invention. You don't have to be racing the Dakar Rally to be able to use the latest addition to the Malcolm Smith Racing Hard Parts Collection: the Lay-Over Stand.

“How many times have you tried to access the oil drain plug or clean the skid plate and couldn't do it on a conventional stand,” questions Malcolm Smith Racing Hard Parts Brand Manager Jason Gearld. “I was just at the latest Big 6 GP and saw a guy trying to change a fried clutch in the dirt… not pretty.” In addition to lending a hand, Jason gave the guy a leg to stand on with this ingenious three-legged Lay-Over stand.

Invented for those times you need an extra hand to get at those hard to reach places, the Lay-Over stand is perfect for washing up after a ride or trailside repairs… and all points in between. “The stand cradles the grip to prevent damaging clutch and brake levers, starter buttons and other critical components,” notes Gearld. Other features and benefits for this better idea include:

  • Constructed of lightweight aluminum and stainless steel
  • Adjusts from 13” to 19” with 7 height adjustments
  • Cradles the grip to eliminate damaging valuable components
  • Great for washing under the bike, changing the clutch, skidplate installs, etc.

On any Sunday at the track, or Monday morning cleaning, the Lay-Over is the perfect solution. “While you may not have to rebuild your top end in the wilds of Baja with some bailing wire and duct tape like Malcolm, there are plenty of times where the Lay-Over stand is the perfect helping hand,” suggests Gearld.

User Feedback

I have had one since they first came out, I like it and not much money all things considered. You can also change a tire on a 5 gallon bucket, but a stand is nicer and easier on the back, etc.

I made a decent one out of a jackstand in about 5 minutes after reading this.

I'll be doing the same when I get home from work today

I bought a pair of MSR boots, and lost a strap on about my 3rd ride. No big deal, I'll just order a few replacements, except that nobody seems to carry them. So, two and a half weeks ago, I shoot MSR a email to their customer service email address......nothing. No response. Three days later, I give them a call, and spoke to Matt, who seemed to be annoyed to be dealing with me, but said he'd send me a strap. Two weeks later, no strap. I call back and get Matts voicemail and leave him a message. No response. Two days later I call and nobody answers, so it forwards me to another voice mail, so I leave another message, and no response. I guess I'll mark MSR off my list of suitable products.
