Tomac needs to get dirty!


With Las Vegas left in the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross series, countless storylines are still in development.  The most important is The 450 Championship.  Eli Tomac needs to win which would require Ryan Dungey to finish 5th or worse, and that's the simple version.  Looking closer at last week’s race we find a frustrated and even angry Eli Tomac.  Typically when racing one of the sports all-time greats, you want to maintain a clean and respectful race.  After KTM took their gloves off last week, having Marvin Musquin pull over and hand Dungey the win, the door is wide open for Tomac to play dirty.  KTM cast the first stone, unfortunately if Tomac takes Dungey out in spectacular form, he will definitely take heat.  KTM is playing with a loaded deck in Vegas.  Eli is battling Dungey, Musquin, Millsaps, Baggett, Anderson and Wilson.  That is 5 guys that will move out of Dungey's way in order to get Dungey into the top 4.  Eli might have placed himself in this situation with his “choke job” in East Rutherford, despite the controversial “team orders.”  If this was Carmichael, Reed, Johnson, Hannah or Villopoto they all would be planning an attack against Dungey.  Is Tomac willing to get dirty to win the most prestigious MX/SX championship in the world?  If Tomac decides to execute this strategy he can only become more popular.  Tomac is single handily taking on the current evil empire of Supercross (KTM/Husqvarna) and not many would blame him for fighting the bully using dirty tactics.  I think Eli will take a shot at Dungey on Saturday night.


In the 250 class team tactics could also get out of control.  With the East and West Regions combined, and the West already claimed by Josh Hill, a group of riders are vulnerable to being forced to “help” their teammates.  We all know the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team isn't shy about using team tactics.  I guarantee KTM and Husqvarna won't be shy about using their guys either as this is the only time any Supercross Championship has been a winner take all finale with 3 riders.  Joey Savatgy is likely to be the guy with the most teammates at his disposal, but Hill is looking for a 450 ride.  I don’t think Hill will risk angering a future employer.  Adam Ciancirulo is still alive in the championship.  Austin Forkner is still looking for his first win, would he sacrifice that for Hill?  Let's not forget Tyler Bowers isn't Savatgy’s teammate this year and even though Bowers hasn't been a top guy this year his disdain for Joey Savatgy has not subsided.  Bowers has mentioned on multiple occasions that he would love to get a shot at Savatgy.  Jordan Smith has a couple of good teammates in Shane Mcelrath and Mitchell Oldenburg.  Both guys appear to be team players and would sacrifice their race so TLD KTM can earn their first championship.  Zach Osborne has been the fastest guy in the East and should be able to win this outright with no help.  His teammate Martin Davalos should be willing to help Zach, but at times Davalos looks more like a human torpedo on the track.  His best offering might be staying out of Zach’s way.


Don't miss the race on Saturday night!  This season will be dissected for years to come.  2017 is Dungey's last season (maybe) along with Roczen’s too (I hope not).  This will be the last year with the modern format.  We will see many changes coming in 2018, whether it's a Chase Format, a 2 moto format or something new.  This will be the last series under the current format and no matter how Saturday ends it has been one for the ages!

The guy that wrote the article is a Butt Face. Tomac is in this position because of himself no one else.  No one made him crash. Dungey consistent. Tomac inconsistent. Who the faster rider Tomac. Who the Smarter rider Dungey. All Tomac had to do was ride a little conservative and he could of won.

Tomac is his own worst enemy. A few years ago he broke both his collarbones. Was any one near him No. I think he was a minute and half ahead of Dungey who was in 2ed. He could of slowed down just a little and more than likely he would of Won that Championship that year. So getting dirty is just an other way of cheating all be it with in the rules. If done right! If he does it then I'd lose a lot of Respect for Tomac. And for you Chris I think Your friends will be keeping there wallets in there front pocket when around You. Any thing to win right!

Haha, wallet in front pocket...  Does anyone hate Reed for trying to take out Stewart in 09'?

If not for the bike malfunction in Arlington, Tomac would still have the red plate. Thankfully RD has all the orange and white KTM riders on his side. RD was given 3 points in Jersey and I'm sure Vegas he will have a clear path to the podium. 

ET doesn't have a chance, however coming back from double digit points to make Vegas even a mention is admirable.

You can spin it anyway you want,however the guy is not a choker

However it turns out at least it's a more interesting season. I ever said  Tomac is a choker he just has to think more then just do. Dungey most of the time isn't the fastest but........ the Outdoors are going to be Tomac's time to shine and bright! It would of been Fun to have seen Tomac and Roczen go at it that would of been great.

I usually just read these lunatic rants for their entertainment value, without feeling a need to comment. In this case however I felt the need to comment. Maybe we could give them lengths of chain, or mallets with spikes, or jousting lances to even the playing field for those poor Kawasaki guys. Maybe we could tie Eli and Ryan together at the left wrist and give them each a switchblade and settle it old school, or finally, maybe Joey can go to the main with a secret trap door on his rear fender that will periodically drop roofing nails on the track in front of the TLD and rockstar teams' riders if he gets a lead. Fair enough? Take off the tin foil hat, stop crying "team orders" and "cheating" and enjoy some week 17 racing that actually matters in 2017, and no more rants that read like they came from a mental midget.

So did you lose respect for Dungey and Musquin last weekend?

Yes I did a little. Unfortunately in the Business I was in had to compromise like Musquin not as bad but hated doing it (keeping My Job) The thing that got Me was advocating being dirty. Racing is skill , using your brain and luck. Taking someone out is just wrong. Just because it was done before doesn't make right. Hell you never know what going happen. Chris must be loving all the attention?

No mention of how Grant let Tomac by in Seattle... so I guess that wasn't team orders... If Tomac had been faster and could have kept up with Grant last week he would have pulled over too...

I like Tomac, seems like a stand-up guy... no way he is going to do something dirty... despite the Dungey hater Cookey's

I just watched a recording of the race. On the KTM pit boards there were no orders the last 2 laps. It looked like Marvin got cross rutted or started to loose the front coming out of the last corner. That was a gnarly track. lot's of mistakes from riders. Whether there were orders or not...every manufacturer trying to win a title has been there. 2 and 4 wheeled racing. I remember watching Hannah pull off for his teammate. Tonight will be interesting

I didn't see Musquin pull over for Dungey last week.

Musquin missed a rut, and flew across the track, right in front of Dungey. He barely missed Dungey's front wheel. A more accurate assessment would be to write, "Musquin nearly won the Champianship for Tomac, by almost taking out Dungey in the last turn at East Rutherford".

      Anybody else get emailed a survey from Monster energy supercross/Feld? I got it yesterday and filled it out and sent it back. 
      One of the most interesting questions on the survey I thought was asking for input on the idea of combining both SX season results and MX season results somehow (guessing by total points) to get or recognize an "overall champion". I like that idea.
      Most of the other questions were what you would expect a fan to be asked about, some about SX and some about MX.

The 17-race schedule returns to its traditional weekend routing format as the series visits 15 cities spread across 13 states including California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan and Washington. Tickets go on sale this October as partner stadiums welcome back fans at full capacity.
      Anaheim has become synonymous with the opening round of the Supercross series and Angel Stadium of Anaheim will excitedly host the opening round on Saturday, January 8 as well as subsequent rounds on Saturday, January 29 (Round 4) and Saturday, February 12 (Round 6). Remaining on the West Coast, rounds two and three will take place on Saturday, January 15 at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland and Saturday, January 22 at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif., while round 5 travels to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on Saturday, February 5.

      Round seven picks up in the middle of the country on Saturday, February 19 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. before heading south to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, February 26 and then travelling east to the famed Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla. for round nine on Saturday, March 5.
      Missing from last year’s schedule, rounds 10 and 12 will mark a return to Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. on Saturday, March 12 and Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday, March 26 with a visit back to Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, March 19 in Indianapolis, Ind. for round 11.

      Storylines abound for the 2022 Supercross season as the 450SX Class continues to feature what has become an ever-expanding, deep array of talent. Three Supercross champions will be competing for another title – 2x champion Cooper Webb, 2020 champion Eli Tomac and 2018 champion Jason Anderson as both a domestic and international “who’s who” list of competitors vie for their first title – Ken Roczen (Germany), Marvin Musquin (France), Dylan Ferrandis (France), Adam Cianciarulo, Justin Barcia, Aaron Plessinger, Malcolm Stewart and Chase Sexton, all from America.
      The 250SX Class will see a return of both reigning champions – Justin Cooper (Western Regional) and Colt Nichols (Eastern Regional), while Australian super-star brothers Jett and Hunter Lawrence and Japan’s Jo Shimoda seek their first title.

      Another welcomed highlight will be the return of FanFest which is currently planned for all rounds except Minneapolis, Minn. (Round 7) and Detroit, Mich. (Round 10). The expansive outside footprint will feature the race team rigs, Monster Energy exhibitions, photo opportunity set ups, food and beverages, plus the comforting Race Day Live Lounge and red-carpet styled Ride of Fame.
