Tahuya Trail Day - Belfair, WA

Calendar
brian.havoc
  • WHO:  ThumperTalk POC is @brian.havoc  Crew is you, DNR, NMA, BCMC, RCMC, TMC, and...?
  • WHAT:  Trail Party at Tahuya ORV area, near Belfair, WA.
  • WHEN:  0800 meetup on 25 January
  • WHERE:  Stage at Elfendahl Pass TH.  (Do NOT listen to Google maps and try to turn off on Plantation Rd...just stay on NE Elfendahl Pass Rd
  • WHY:  Brushing, deadfalls, and general trail clearance needed on Hurd Road single track.  Plenty to occupy all!

Mark your calendars! PNW Dirt Talk trail party 25 January at Tahuya. Meet at Elfendahl Pass Trailhead 8AM; riders meeting and then moving by 8:30. That gives us enough daylight to work a few hours and then get a rip in to enjoy the fruits of our labor!

Coordination is ongoing, but DNR and NMA are already tracking, as are River City MC, Bremerton Cruisers MC, and Tacoma MC. If the timing works out, we could have the NMA Heavy Maintenance Crew with the ST240 single track excavator out there for people to get a look at and get excited about. Still trying to see if that can happen.

This will primarily be a drive and walk work party, though we'll wrap up with lunch so you can get a few hours of riding in. Target location is going to be south across Hurd Rd. We'll have keys. Wear comfortable work/walk clothes and dress for the weather of course!

Suggested tools are trimmers, loppers, trail rakes, and a few pulaskis. I'll personally have a chainsaw, 2 sets of gas trimmers, folding saw, machetes, Macleods, a Max Axe toolset, and 3 semi-feral children to throw at the trails.

Oh, and I'll have a grill. River City MC is going to provide lunch! So if you're coming, please sign up and please reach out so I can get a rough tally for grocery shopping the day before!

As always, I'm very much open to suggestions on locations and organizations to work with on the PNW Dirt Talk "trail program" or whatever we're calling it. One a month, the more new places the better. Right now low land riding in WA is almost certainly limited to Walker Valley, Tahuya, and Green Mountain for the public stuff and Shelton Dirt Rider for private. What else have ya got?

If you feel like taking the lead or co-lead of any future event, I'd love to share the responsibility and the work...and your energy!

Great news! River City MC is going to feed everyone and is reimbursing me for $500 of trail tools!

So...can anyone help me get a special deal on tools? Or recommend a favorite source?  Probably pulaskis, grub hoes.  Interested in recommendations too.  I have MacLeods.

If anyone has recommendations in Tahuya, I'm interested.  This weekend, snow allowing, we'll go scout the northwest stuff.  Last weekend, Raines Grade was good, 1.9 could use brushing but is about to be logged, and Derailleur needs brushing.  Need to check Tommy and Severed Hand on east side too.

No way!  We have upwards of 40 people currently signed up! Maybe 50??  Great news indeed!

If you're not signed on to the facebook event or rilled up under TTR, TTC, or BCMC (I have RCMC numbers), please let  me know.  Helps with the meal planning  so I can get everyone fed!
