01' KTM 525 street legal

Thinking about getting a 525 and making it street legal. Is this feasible without insane amount of maintenance?

they didnt make the 525 till 03, it was a 520 in 01

I have an 02' 520 exc and is rock solid bike. six gears, super light. love it..

Pretty sure you have to get bigger stator to support whatever light kit you get.

Could this handle long rides. hundreds of miles a time?

yes, but they are not road bikes, more of a race bike, long term road work will wear you and the bike out

Yea def a race bike. Basically MX bike. I did 140 miles just two weeks ago. Unless your agrressive off you ass most of time, your ass will prolly hurt.

A 520 or 525 SXF model would be close to my last choice for a dual sport bike, especially if it is saddled with the close ratio 4 speed trans. Does it have 4 or 6 speeds? A far better choice would be the 520/525 EXC which is equipped with a wide ratio 6 speed trans, larger stator and E-start.
