I am a member of a few of these forums and was asked to help spread the word of things going on that will effect our rights to ride. Some good, some not so good.

Please get involved to help save off road riding in Maryland. Doing nothing accomplishes nothing,

First here's a link to an earlier post:

And heres's a survey from the MD DNR. Please take the time to answer a few questions.

Some more promising news...

I see there has been 200+ views, I hope that means that those viewing are joining in to help the cause. These trail systems could be very benificial to the local ecomomy of western MD.

Please reply to our representatives. This can only help our sport.

Team - please contact the members of the Natural Resources Subcommittion of Environmental Matters Committee (listed below and let them know your stance on HB 660 "Forests and Parks - Public Recreation on Private and State-Owned Land - Off-Highway Vehicles."

Why is this good for OHVs?

The first obstacle to private landowners opening their property for OHV use is liability. This change extends the current liability exemption (for a landowner who agrees to the use of the landowner's property for cross-country skiing or snowmobiling in Garrett County) to all Counties in Maryland and includes the use of OHVs. This is good for owners of reclaimed coal mines in western MD, owners of sand or gravel pits in southern or eastern MD, for stone quarries, for farmers wishing to generate some additional revenue from their land, etc.

Also, many landowners do not want OHVs on their property and become alienated to OHVs in general when rogue trails appear on their property without their consent. The greater use of OHVs on private land should reduce rouge trails on private and public land.

Please contact the committee members listed below and your elected representatives ASAP!

ONE MORE TIME

Team - one more time!

Time is of the essence -- act now!!!!!!

Thanks to your efforts, the House committee gave it a thumbs up to HB 660 (I errored when I said earlier that the Maryland House approved HB660--it was the committee) and it is now off to the full House chamber this week.

If you want to listen to the testimony before the Senate subcommittee, go to this link

http://mgahouse.maryland.gov/house/play ... om=5245659

We are told that it shouldn’t see much pushback given a 22-0 vote from the committee.

The Senate committee is likely the rougher ride with several plaintiff’s litigators in that body. This is where we need your help again!

Please contact the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee (listed below) and let them know your stance on SB 533 "Forests and Parks - Public Recreation on Private and State-Owned Land - Off-Highway Vehicles."

Also, this bill is a natural complement to recent Sideling Hill legislation (SB 471) which passed the Judicial Proceedings Committee this week.

Savage River Trail Progress
  •

Postby Kyler » Mon Aug 03, 2015 7:57 am

On the 27th of July, DNR held the ORV Stakeholders Meeting at Rocky Gap State Park. At the meeting, they showed the 30% design plans for the new Savage River trail system. Friends, I have to admit I'm impressed! DNR has definitely been listening to us and took to heart the lessons from the NOHVCC workshop last year.

For the rock crawlers, there will be a dedicated section roughly 50' wide by 250' long. Preston Stevens from the United Four Wheel Drive Associations, and Doug Dobrynski from the FJ Bruisers, provided input to add a bypass lane beside the rock crawl as well as other additions to make that crawl an all-day affair for the wheelers.

The campsites will have drive-through access for those of us pulling trailers. They will also be installing a water-less ADA-compliant toilet. There will be 4 group sides with a 40x40 pad and 4 family sites with a 20x20 pad. The pads are for tents and tables. For the kids, DNR will create a kiddy trail between the campsites. There is a trail head near the camp sites for families that want to go hike the Savage River Trail.

We suggested that the lower section, which traverses a long hill, be made narrower to slow down riders, increase enjoyment as well as reduce the cost of construction. Most bike and quad riders want a narrow twisty trail and DNR listened. It looks like roughly 30 miles of trail, using the loops as well as going all the way out and back, will be constructed. At the end furthest away from the campsites, we suggested an area be established for a pavilion for folks to take a break or have a picnic. We will be donating a picnic table for their use.

The next stage requires permits from the Department of Environment. This is where our meeting earlier with DNR Secretary Belton will pay off. He promised to engage with MDE to expedite the required permits.

Standby team! I think you will like the new trail system.

Slowly the wheels turn......http://damnriders.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4240&sid=80f39311835a5c8305a1bd50ff02bc53

"The Board of Public Works unanimously approved today the construction of several projects within Savage River State Forest, including the development of the state’s first modern off-road vehicle trail. The trail will include the first-ever campsite designed to support off-highway vehicle riders. Other features will include single-track hare scramble style trail sections, technical trail spurs, internal loops, vehicular pull-offs and in another first – a full size rock crawl area."
