Broke off axle pinch stud on KDX

Recommended Posts

I broke off the bottom right axle pinch stud off today.Thats what I get for having a perfectly good torque wrench and not using it  But anyway will it be alright to ride like this or will I need to replace it?If I have to replace it how will I go about doing that?Looked on parts catalog but did not see those bolts being sold individually looks like they would rather sell me the fork.....

Did you break it off flush with the fork housing? If so, your best bet would be to center punch the stud, drill a center hole and use an easy out. You may need to heat the area to allow the aluminum to expand in order to get it out. If it broke off and left some material to grab onto, you can, one heat the area around the stud and use vise grips to twist the stud out. Than go to the store and buy a new stud. Metric of course.

For the nut?? I want to say 78 inch-pounds (six and a half foot-pounds)

Once read a guy's story who thought 78 foot-pounds!

I was thinking 68 inch pounds but until I got back into the garage today, I wasn't for sure.

78 foot pounds on an 8mm stud and 10 mm nut!? Wow, just plain wow.

Pretty much any online place does not keep a vast warehouse of parts. They get them from some regional warehouse, just like everyone else. It gets shipped to them, then on to the customer. Unless they got a 10-pack when I ordered 4 a couple of weeks ago, I don't see you getting them by Saturday.
