Sub Frame - fix (weld) or replace?

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up an 04 250 EXC. Bike is in pretty good shape with only 50 hrs or so on it. But small cracks in the sub frame near the inserts.

Is it worth having welded up, or just bite the bullet and get a new one? But at almost $300 ($262 on Motosport, $297 on RockyMtn), it's quite steep.

Depends,

Are you racing it, jumping it or a weekend warrior riding in the woods?

If you're a warrior I say just ride the bejeebers out of it and keep an eye on Ebay for a replacement unit. If you're racing or jumping it then I'd bite the bullet and get a new one. Just my penny's worth.

Definitely not racing or jumping... might do the odd enduro for fun. But I've only been riding 2 years, so not hard on the bike, other than just going down a lot. 😉

If you have it welded take the plasic pieces out of the end. The guy that welded mine melted it. And don't send the wife to drop it off and pick it up, they will over charge you. Trust me

Make sure it's straight and then take it to a welder. For $10 as good as new.

i dont know about where you live, but nobody around here (ny) charges any less than $40
