gear oil level check allen head bolt stripped

Recommended Posts

the allen head to check my gear oil is stripped out so I can never check to see if im still at a good level. so instead of always draining and and putting the correct new oil in when it is questionable, what can I do to get this bolt out?

I don't know without seeing it maybe pull the cover off and heat it s little and try getting it with vice grips. I had to do that to the screws on my front master cylinder just don't use to much heat.

anyone else have any tips?

you could try a grip socket, they have sharp spiral teeth in them and grip as they turn, as far as the oil level, just put in the right amount, and forget it, unless it leaks or it's burning it, you won't have a problem. There's no reason to use the check bolt to see the level.

Never used the check bolt in my life. No oil leaks, no burning tranny oil, then it's not going anywhere. Just change regularly and monitor/ measure what comes out. If any starts disappearing then find the source
