Carbon Build-up

I've noticed some carbon build-up at the tip of my MRD. Any reason for concern or ways to lessen it?

+1 rich; how is your jetting? and when was the muffler last packed? my CRD pipe has a muffler generally similar to the MRD - I was running a taaaad rich and then the packing burned too far put and afaik this can cause overly rich running etc., turbulence in the muffler affects exhaust flow

How many miles on the motor ?

160/25 on the jets with the needle on the 4th clip. 4,500 miles on the bike!

Oh and I've not repacked the muffler yet but will be placing an order in the near future.

I noticed with my bike that was burning oil it caused excessive carbon build up on the tip and licence plate. Once I put new rings on the piston problem was solved.

Certainly at 4500 miles I wouldn't need to be concerned with that, would I? However, I think I've had some oil loss, but no smoking or visible leaks.

Using a small amount of oil is normal ,@ 4500 miles I would thing you are safe .

You could Carry out a leak down test to confirm any issues .. As an option

Here is something I noticed the other day and find it to not be "normal", but would appreciate a confirmation on if it is or not....

The oil was actually coming from the black spot above the gasket. I had wiped some of it off before taking the picture. Thanks you all!

In addition to the above issues... Is there suppose to be a plug left of the idle screw? See pictures below...
