How to get rid of carb corrosion?

Recommended Posts

I have some corrosion in the carb that I'm pretty sure was caused by the mice nesting in my airbox a few years ago. Any Ideas on how to clean it up?

I'm planning to soak the carb body for a day or so, blow out all the passages, then rebuild it with a new o-ring kit. What should I soak it in. I have heard soaking in carb cleaner, pine-sol, simple green, etc... Recommendations?

The carb cleaned up really well in the 100% pine-sol dip for about 18 hours. It completely removed the corrosion with no scrubbing. It did change the finish on the carb body. It used to be kind of shiny. Now it is dull and chalky. There was some gray residue when I rinsed the body off, so there must have been some kind of reaction betwen the pine-sol and the metal on that part. The float bowl was not affected the same way as the body. The bowl is clean and still pretty shiny.
