What did you do to your Yamaha YZ 2 stroke today?

Made my chinese hydraulic clutch work like butter. The original piston seal was dragging bad, so i made a new piston with an O-Ring. It's a incredibly light clutch now with an Magura 10,5mm master cylinder (the slave cylinder is 11,5mm with the 3mm rod). I only have 8mm of maximum travel now, compared to 10mm with the cable clutch, but it should still be more than enough.

The cheap way is under 100 USD with some extra steps.

I paid a little more and bought a used real magura mastercylinder and a ktm clutch hose.

On the slave cylinder you have to shorten the threads, make a bushing that fits the threads and the engine case, shorten the rod and cut some new m3 threads on. On the hose you have to replace the 90° fitting with a straight one (or pay more and buy a hose that fits).

I think it's possible to do everything with a drill press and standard tools. And if you're lucky you might find an o-ring that fits the standard piston.

Summer jetting. Yes, way late, but our seasons are pretty mild so bike runs well with summer or winter jetting, just not optimum. So finally got around to doing it, and of course she runs excellent.

2005 YZ250 with 2017 crate motor:
- Squish set to 0.045"
- #8 slide with a notch I added
- #40 power jet, 42 pilot, NEDJ/2, 168 main

Sea level here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Our summer weather is generally humidity 60-90% and daytime temps in high 80s and 90s. Could possibly run stronger on most days with a 170 main.

Just put on some radiator guard on my 2006 YZ315 stroker.

This is version 2 of it that I'm still working on. Attached is version 1 and 2 [emoji4]

Very nice! I’m assuming the desert version is version 1? I just picked up a ‘07 125 that I’m in the process of going through. My thought is it will replace my ‘15 250F when done. I was really wanting to go the direction you did but got the 125 for cheap so will give it a try. Only problem is by the time I get done it’s not going to be cheap LOL [emoji23].

It looks like the top pic is at Pala? Do you ride there frequently? We ride most local So Cal tracks about 1-2 times weekly. In that picture which upper triples are you running? Did you convert to newer forks or still on ‘05 SSS? Also what wheels / rotors? I like the R Tech update gas tank and shrouds!

In the Garage pictures it looks like you have something different for the fork guard guides (white things on upper tubes)? I saw someone, somewhere post these in black and would like to try and find them but can’t find the thread anywhere now.

How do you like the 315 stroker? Have you spent time on newer 450s or EG 295 as for comparison?

Ultimately I’m trying to find a 2 stroke / less expensive to maintain alternative, that I can work on, that i can still be competitive in my class.

I have a build thread over at Vital.

The pic with desert tank is when I bought it for $1800. The one at Pala is version 1. Version 2 is with the Rtech kit, that I'm still working on.

It's an 06 so always had the SSS suspension, but it was done by Enzo. Luxon clamps, and stock 2019 wheel set.

The 315 is no comparison to the EG295, even TMR's 295 is much stronger partial throttle torque and throttle response then EG. Stock HP on Tom's dyno is 44HP, his 295 is 49, and the 315 stroker is 55-58HP. I should be closer to 58HP with this since I wanted to have slight top end advantage and it's made for race gas only.

This was not a cheap build, pretty much fully decked out! From hydro clutch, over 3k into engine, etc etc etc

I have black ones on my 2018 but the fork tubes are different from 06-07. You can order black rings also for the 06 model: https://shop.tmv.nl/nl/dirtbike-frame-parts/front-fork-parts/fork-savers/tmv-fork-protection-rings-kayaba-yamaha-2006.html

I have these ones: https://www.technical-touch.com/outertube-protection-plastic-all-yamaha-models-set-000.0379

Faster USA used also black rings on their 2006 yz125 build:

Maybe a silly question but do you have to split the forks to fit the TT tube protectors?.......thanks
