Started this project last year and just finished. It’s. 1993 WR250. The piston was blown with a hole in it. It dropped metal parts into the lower and bent the connecting rod.  Complete motor work and bored 1mm over stock. Bike was completely gone through.

Nice work! I shared your before/after on the ThumperTalk Instaglam page today for #2stroketuesday 👍 We'll see if they can tell us the year and model.

Wow,  that’s cool. Thanks for doing that. Do they get anything for it?

Nah... It's just for fun. I get a little sick of the non stop latest/greatest getting all the love. Esp. the bought stuff. Builds like this to me should be recognized.

A nice and clean 2000 KX 125 was hard to find, and then...a nice clean KX 200, even harder to find, so we made one!.

I seen that and knew what it was. But wouldn't spoil the fun 🤠

Thanks for doing that. It was really fun doing it. I restored a 1984 Honda V65 Magna 2years ago. Now that was fun;however, the WR was more exciting.

The frames look so much nicer orange on the older KTM's. My son had a 04 125 that we rebuilt in the off season a few years back. After the engine was gone through we Swapped in the 2010 adjustable Triples, Forks, rear Shock, Swingarm, rotors, from my 10 250sxf and finished it off with my orange hard parts wheels and 06 shrouds.

I agree @tj.moto!  The older golden frame bikes do look better with orange frame. Black is easy! Either all orange or bust!  I love a white dirt bike too!  Husky has a BeAutiFUL bike.  But combined can make for a great compromise!
Stand by for the final update, waiting on the custom graphics to finish it off.

not exactly 6 days! But my version of white , orange & blue!

I love old bikes!

Ride old bikes!

Braaaap!

Picked up this 98 XR250R in 2015 in central Oregon. It needed some love, but it worked. At least until my shed collapsed onto it. Busted everything but the forks and the wheel. I rebuilt it enough to ride a bit the next season, but I wasn't quite happy with how it turned out. So the following winter I bunkered down and tore it apart to inspect it and see what I could do for it. One thing led to another and it turned into the trail killer it is today.

To start, I went with a wiseco 277 piston. While I was waiting to get the cylinder back from the machine shop, I figured I might as well make it street legal so I could trail hop locally. I wasn't really happy with any of the kits I found online, so I used my aircraft wiring experience to build a custom harness and convert all of the lights to DC for LEDs. I had read somewhere in this forum that I should probably get a better stator, so I got a rewound 150w. I ordered turn signals and a light controller from China but couldn't find a headlight that I liked. I love the old caged Baja light look, but I couldn't find any used 250baja headlights for sale :(. Eventually I saved up, bit the bullet, and bought the trail tech 8" race light in halogen (HID coming soon). I added front and rear brake switches, an R/C car battery, a horn, and topped it off with a trail tech vapor.

But now everything but my tank and plastics are new. My attention to detail wasn't happy. I figured the 4 gallon IMS tank would add enough fuel for me to cruise over the mountains and into Montana, which I haven't been able to do on my bikes in years(living in N. Idaho now). And I found some better used plastics on eBay.

The exhaust came into play during engine reassembly. I found several small holes in the factory exhaust, and where I live, forest fires a real big issue in the summer. So I found a powercore 4 on eBay for a good price, and threw it on, rather than just patch the factory exhaust.

I don't have real pictures of the build unfortunately :( I never really intended to post it.

Thanks! So do I! It puts out about 1700 lumens with the halogen, so I may not do HID, we'll see. Lights up EVERYTHING. Personally, i hated the look of the polisport and the tusk lights, and wanted something that stood out a bit more and put out more light. This works great, and with the battery installed, it has no flickering or dulling at lower rpms.

Reminds me of the old round number plates!

Before and after.  1980 YZ250.   I sold it back in 1986 and recently reacquired it from the same person.   I used the same fenders tank, pipe and side panels.  Plastic is original factory except for number plate
