Loose countershaft sprocket nut!

Hi all!

2005 DRZ400S (just converted to SM), got bike with 5500km (3400mi), bike now has ~7200km (~4500mi)

I ride 100% street, previous owner took the bike off road.

I was looking over the bike today and noticed that the countershaft sprocket nut was loose! :(  If it wasn't for the bent washer!...

I think last time I checked the countershaft nut was like ~800km-1000km ago (500mi-600mi)...

Followed instructions from FAQ for locktite fix.

Flattened the washer and removed nut, washer, sprocket (which turned out to be a sunstar 14T), retainer, spacer and O ring.

Cleaned the countershaft.

The O ring and the spacer appear to be OK, cleaned them and reinstalled.

Countershaft turns (by hand) freely, seems to be OK...

Sprocket has a tiny bit of play on the countershaft, is it OK, or does it have to be tight?

It looks like I need a new washer.

Should I replace the nut as well?

Is my transmission gonna lock up in future, as Eddie Sisneros mentions in that thread, even after doing loctite fix?

Does it just lock up completely while riding, or it happens gradually?

What symptoms should I watch for, down the road?

Thanks guys!

PS

Will going to 15/41 from 14/41 make a difference, speed/acceleration wise?

If after doing the loctite fix, TQ'ing the nut, with chain off the countershaft rotates freely no catches it should be fine..

I had a similar experience.... 3000 street miles later, I still have no problems with the bike.

My bike is a 2002S, that was also SM'ed by the original owner.

I found the loose c/s sprocket when looking into a thrown master-link clip.

I did the Loctite fix and changed to a rivetted chain.  No worries, be happy! :ride:

I ordered new nut and washer.

Will torque the nut to 100 ft-lb and check countershaft.

Thank you for input.
