01 RM125 Cylinder inspection

Recommended Posts

I'm the 4th owner of this 125, and have a major spooge issue.  I decided to swap out the pistons and check the crank.

The crank has apparently been replaced in the past as it says hotrods on it, but it doesn't haven't any play so I guess it's good.

My concern is the cylinder.  I've never done this before so I was wondering if the marks in the cylinder are okay or if some work needs to be done.

The grooves seem shallow to me and feel really smooth.  The service manual says to check for scratches and also has a note saying that "chrome plated cylinder bore cannot be modified such as boring and honing".  So I assume it is chrome plated?

Can I just throw a new piston in, or do I need some cylinder work?  What do I need done if so and what is it going to cost me?
