Starting Issues

Hey all,

 

So I have a 2010 fe450 with a shorai battery. Sometimes when I press the start button, it acts like the battery is dead and has a hard time cranking over, but its only for the first crank, then after that it cranks fine and fires up.

 

I know for the fact that the battery is charged because I always charge it before riding. And I know that the connection is good between the battery and the wires.

 

Any ideas?

 

P.S This only happens some of the time.

If the bike is at TDC the starters have a tough time getting the motor spinning.

I believe the shorai battery is lithium so if the temps are on the cool side, the battery has to 'warm up' to be fully effective.  More than likely it's what o313 said though.

I have several friends with lithium batteries, they all say that the batteries can take a few seconds to get the voltage flowing, needing to heat up internally. The first stab at the button can seem as if the battery is low, but it picks right up. Normal.
