IgniTech DC CDI - Programmable Advice Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I'm making this thread to seek advice while programming my DC CDI from Ignitech.

As a start when ordering from them they request an email stating the model and year of the bike, as well as pictures of the connectors and possibly a picture of the wiring diagram for the bike. I complied, minus the wiring diagram.

Here is a couple pictures of their site and the product you want which is the Sparker DC CDIP:

Here are my emails which can be used somewhat as a reference. Don't spam me you a**holes lol jk :smirk:

I ordered the Sparker DC CDI as well as the CDIP. I wanted to get riding with the non programmable ignition while I tinkered around with all this "programmable ignition" stuff I'm relatively new to. Plus a backup is never bad to have.

They knocked 15% of off both unites because I ordered both and the total was $331.

I sent the payment via paypal and a week or so later received the DHL box.

Here's what is inside:

Now the first looming question is what is this extra red wire that is on both the programmable one and non programmable?

There is also an extra set of a yellow/green, purple, and black wires in the programmable model.

Here are some closeups of the wires from the programmable version:

I'm just getting to the software and tinkering around with the programmable model, but I would like to know what this red wire is on the XR/XL CDI before plugging it in and firing the bike.

Any advice or more questions much welcome

I assume you got these?

http://ignitech.cz/english/aindex.htm

You can't link sub web pages off their site. It simply goes to the main page. I got the Sparker DC CDIP and Sparker DC CDI. If you go to products by model the 650L is not listed but the CDI I got is "for" an XL600.

I fired up the software a little while ago. Pretty compact. Basic. This is gonna be fun

Nice. A friend has ignitech on his 2stroke 250 yamaha gp racer. Works well.

What you want is the data for the standard curve and start from there.

hmmmmmmmmm..if you got a CDI for the XL600R then it would be a AC voltage unit........where the XR650L is a DC CDI unit.....you sure it`ll work..the XL600R only used DC for lighting..

Not sure at all if it will work but it is the sparker dc cdi .. They sell it for the XL somehow and confirmed it is what i need.

Im leaving the red wire out and putting the other two connectors on. Just getting fresh 93 octane and putting my acerbis tank back on.

If it doesnt work or isn't quite as plug and play as they said... Ill complain hahaha

please keep us posted on progress, I'm very interested as to results. Have spent many hours trying to make the MSD unit work, no luck can't be done as plug and play. Several other members have tried as I've learned reading their threads, forums and the internet new to me.

It states on their site that the red needs a switched 12v supply. The extra wires look to be for extra functions (multi functions as referred on their site). Did it not come with a wiring diagram?

Well Hairy do you know one of the benefits of the 24v starter is you can use the XR600R AC CDI. The reason for the DC CDI is the stock starter can not spin motor fast enough to fire the AC CDI. But with 24v it can I have a Ricky Stator stator Ricks hot box CDI for 600R and a XL600R wire harness

And also with AC CDI now the starting system is now isolated from CDI all the batteries do now is start bike

Does sound like a good option.  Mastera I need the 12v batteries to run the 2 HID lighting systems for desert night rides :ride: , stock lights suck. I'm not an electrical genius understanding amp's and omh's but can follow wire diagrams, I treat them like hydraulic piping   :prof:   . Is Rick's Hot Box programmable?  Will need to look into if the Lithium charge correctly, their very sensitive to charge rates, being just expensive RC batteries.

No not programmable but 600R has more aggressive curve and 1000rpm higher rev limit. and is SMALL. With the Ricky Stator it has 3 coils one for CDI and 2 100W for lights charging they can be wired for one 200W for your charging lights

Haha honestly dood im new to riding bikes and since I put on the stock header instead of the XL one I got (those retaining flanges were an absolute bitc* to put on) and since I no longer have a compression leak I cant really say the CDI makes a difference lol.

Anyone have the base advance at 1000RPM and the top advance at around 7000?

Not sure if there is a higher rev limit but theres some limit to where there would be separation of the cam follower system.. Dont wanna reach that point if theres no limit...

7500 is as far as I would go!

And YES performance CDIs do not make much in my book NOT worth it! I know you do not want to hear that!
