KTM525gearbox problem

Hi there just wondering I have just put a new shift fork in my Ktm 525 It all seem to go back together fine but now the engine is in tue bike it will get first gear fine then when click up you can feel it change but it's like it's in neutral it's like that all thought the gears till sixth and it selects could this be because the engine has not been started since rebuild. Is it worth putting oil

In it and starting it to see if makes the the gears engage or is just a waist of my time

When the engine is stationary and not running it cannot be shifted through the gears.  The engine has to be running or at least turned over a little bit for each gear shift.
