So I just left the 2 dealers that are pretty far from me and both told me to run synthetic. But each dealer sold me 2 different types i bought both so I won't have to make long drive again and was wondering what y'all think is better.

It's for a 2013 kx450f but any 4 stroke advice will work

Why not use your owners manual as a guide to the correct oil? I just don't understand.

So not only did I read owners manual I took it in with me but was told 2 different answer and was looking for guidance from other shame on me I guess....

I asked for rotella and neither had it their selection was limited I will be ordering some online

But was wondering if one of these would work better or harm anything

Both of those would work fine.

But... Dont waste your money like that again. go to walmart abd but shell rotella triple protection 15w40 or shell rotella t6 synthetic. you can get 5 gallon pails of the triple for 70$. The t6 is a bit more money but it works great as well.

both are wet clutch safe, and meet/exceed the bikes engine oil qualifications/standards. Its meant for diesel trucks but works perfectly in your bike

I along with thousands of others have been using this stuff for years without issue.

change it every 5-10 hrs depending how hard you ride.

dam stealerships. i have found they are just morons who sell whatever they can to anyone willing to buy. I cant even remember the last time i bought anythibg from a dealer. Thank god for the internet!!

Everyone I know swears by Rotella T6. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I just bought an 07 KX450F and the guy I bought it from runs Castrol 20w-50 in it. I'm thinking about switching over to Rotella T6 5w-40. Can anyone tell me if this is a wise choice?

I run amsoil MCF 10w-40 specifically designed for motorcycles. Excellent oil, and you don't have to change it after every ( or every other) ride. If you buy a preferred customer account, you can buy it by the case for a discounted price and have it shipped to your door.

both great oils.  I find its not what yoiu use its how often you change it. Its not uncommon toget 300+ hours out of a 450f with rotella.

Just to chime in I've used rotella on 2 different 250f's.... Changed every 3-5 hours and internals looked great

I'm afraid to check the inside of this engine. Based on how hard it is to start I think my valves are due for a change and I'll test the compression too. But with some money and time it'll be good to go before spring!

The advantage of using a lesser priced but still motorcycle / wet clutch compatible mineral oil like Rotella (or other) is that unlike

a more expensive synthetic, you are less hesitant to replace it preventatively more often to drain out the contaminants and clutch debris

from your crankcase/gearbox, preventing more wear than a 'superior' lubricant left in there longer.

 

For the small quantity of oil an MX engine holds and the hard work it does in a shared sump with a transmission and clutch, my opinion is to drain it often.

When you spend more on a 'better' oil, you tend to want to leave it in your engine longer to maximize the extra cost, but also leaving the harmful debris in there longer as well.

I run the amsoil... 36 bucks a gallon... Change the oil every 5 hours or so... filter every 10 hours... Its still cheap enough not to bother me. If i had to pay full retail i would probably go with the walmart rotella...
