KTM headlight on 2006 kx 250?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I want to put a headlight on a 2006 kx250, but I'm having trouble finding one that I like the look of. the only thing I really like is the KTM headlights. Would this work? Is there any way to make it work? if so, what would I need to do?

Here's the light: http://www.steahlyoffroad.com/lighting/head-lights/ktm-off-road-headlight-white-ktm-2008-2012-xc-xcf-xc-w-xcf-w-exc.html

Thanks!

The 05-07 KX250 Powerjet coil can only power a 10w equivalent LED light and a LED taillight. It wont have enough to run the KTM light. They are useless for any night riding. Not even good enough to putt home if caught out in the dark. My 07 is set up this way so I can get through tech inspection at the enduros that require working lights. Not sure if anyone makes a higher wattage coil for it. I thought that I read that Ricky Stator can rewind the coil to put out a little more.

Tried to do this on my ’05 kx250. Bottom line is forget about it unless you want to run it off a battery. No one makes a stator for it. I sold the ’05 because of this issue and upgraded my ’99 with a Moose stator and a Baja designs kit. 40w and at least I can pass inspection now.

What would I have to do to run it off of a battery? Would there be any way to charge the battery off of the engine with a rectifier?

Thanks!

Google Baja designs. They make a headlight kit that has everything built into the back of the headlight (including a small battery). I suppose you could rig something up to charge it from the existing stator.. But I'm not an EE and couldn't tell you how without doing a bit of research. Do keep in mind the light I'm referring to would be almost useless for any real night riding.

Total loss systems are very good if you get the right setup.

Do you want to actually ride at night or just trying to get by an inspection?

Cyclops manufactures several battery powered systems that work for night riding or racing. all put out far more light than any factory halogen setup.

 Here are a few.

The Penetrator 610 is race worthy, the 310 is a great trail light

Here's the largest stator I have seen for your bike

Definitely going to be your best option. This would allow you to run our SII LED Light drawing only 21 watts no problem.

It seems that I'd have to get the stator rewound, which means I'd go for an SII light, what would you guys recommend the flush mount, and just install it in my number plate, or the one that has it all built in?

We can rewind the stock stator and get about 30 watts from it.

What do I need to do for this? do I send it to you guys? or will you rewind one and send it to me?

Thanks!
