simple carb question...please advise

Would someone please review the attached picture and advise me whether port on left side of carb should be capped and/or vented and/or other. Port is located just above choke a little forward and below throttle cable.

That is a vent port. Connect a piece of line to it. There's another vent port on the right side. Route one of them down and the other up high.

Mine are all just venting downwards towards the shock coil.

We route one of them upward to keep it from being submerged during water crossings. Ever hear of people complain that their engine cuts out during water crossings? It's because their carb vent lines are being submerged and the carb bowl momentarily loses atmospheric pressure. Same phenomenon as if they were stopped up with mud.
