Anyone ever painted an Exhaust end cap? DIY

The title says it all.

Looking to paint the end cap on my KX250F for a lil bling factor. Anyone ever done it? Should i sand it? What kind of paint? I'm not talking about powder coating, thats too expensive, I'd just buy an aftermarket end cap in that scenario.

I don't know of any paint or painting technique where the paint would just melt off or scratch off in about a ride

just sand it with 360 grt and get some BBQ paint. it will stay on there for a while. Don't overcoat it though. Light coats each time and let it dry .

done it many times and works well. Not too much heat at the muffler tip.

The tip on my XL was mad eout of regular mild steel pipe and was polished but it just rusts. The previous owner must have broken a couple of the internal nuts off so the cap can't be taken off to replace with a stainless one. For the heck of it I polished it again and sprayed it with Rustoleum's clear coat and it has stayed all summer. It isn't the same as bare polished steel but it is glossy and clear, good enough till I get a new silencer sometime.

yup. Did it. Just used high heat flat or semi-gloss engine paint

Would color have any effect on durability? Like i know black attracts more heat then, say white.

I'm wanting to use a cherry or anodized red color.

ok color is no different just go to an auto parts store and find the engine paint pick a color but yes sand it and spray i painted the whole pipe and silencer on a honda i had and it never faded or chipped but do a couple of coats like spray it once then sand it with a high git sand paper then spray it again and u should be good to go

yup forgot about that. sand it...clean it good. Tape it off to prevent over spray

did the tip on mu kx because it was starting too look abit shit

sanded it back abit, hit it with hi temp paint

looks much better
