at what speed do you generally ride on trails?

Hey all,

I just wanted to see what everyone's speed is while riding trails.

I know this is kinda geared toward those of us with some type of speedometer, but if you have a general idea, please feel free to contribute.

My speed(s):

At the end of a normal day of riding my trail tech will read an average speed of anywhere from 15-20 mph

On long smooth straights I'll do 50+ MPH

Long not so smooth 30-40 MPH

In technical areas I'll be between 15-30 MPH

Most of the time when I look at my speed I'm in the 20 MPH range +/- 2 or 3 MPH

I know there's a million other things to worry about than speed while on the trail. I'm just curious to see how others ride.

I'm probably pretty slow too, only been riding about 7 or 8 months.

Thanks everyone!

I need a new video, and I don't have a speedometer, but with a little math, I figured out that I am avg. 18mph on this, it could be higher now.

According my GPS, I usually have a moving average of 14-15 mph. This is a little skewed, as I might me doing 50+ on a logging road to connect the single track that we might be riding in a zone of +/-10 mph.

Depends on the trail.  On 50" ORV trail here I might average 30-35 mph on GPS. On hike-a-bike stuff out west I think we one time averaged 5.5 mph, although that did include stops.

When I was doing harescrambles and enduros it seemed no matter the course I'd always end up around 16-18 mph average.

All depends on the terrain I'm on and the mood I'm in.

Clapped out 5th! Just kidding. GPS said an average of 20-22 on a somewhat technical trail.

For the Canadians in this forum who read speed in km/h, I have an average speed of 57.8 km/h over a mix on tight technical trails and more open logging trails :)

Hard to say as the trails vary a bit around here. But would have to say 30mph +/- 5mph

If its just me or a bunch of fast friends we can move pretty good.....If its just me and my wife I just poke around on trails....

So you do have a camera!(if that is you) That is some gnarly stuff, I can't see being able to sit down on that stuff and still go fast. Any idea what you were avg on speed?

No idea. I'll be bringing the GoPro out tomorrow too so maybe I'll have some more footage...

Nice riding , very nice trail too

As FAST as trail allows. If I go any faster the trail wins.

His butt isn't always glued to the seat. Fast, while sitting...Yes he is:-) I hope 'monk is still sportin' that bright orange helmet...much easier to keep track of...:-)
