Drz400sm speedo question

How's it going new to the forum just got my first supermoto it's a 08 drz400sm . As I've been reading up I'm begging to find out that the $1000 speedo units are not the most realiable. My problem is that the unit does not seem to want to work when it drops below 70 degrees ... The back light comes up and the neutral, highbeam, blinker lights work but nothing comes up on the speedo itself just blank... Like I said when it's warm outside it seems to work fine just when it's cold it won't work. I've tired taken the unit apart and cleaned it out and made sure there was no corrosion or broken connections. Idk if it could be something wrong with the wiring at this point lost... Any help would be appreciated

Wow...below 70 isn't that cold.

Have you cleaned all the connections on where the screen plugs in? I have heard of similar digital displays having issues due to bad soldering (probably cold joints) and they will not work unless it warms up. May need to be re-soldered or a pin connector or plug isn't having the best connection.

Worst case you could always buy a Vapor unit. I'm sure that's not your first choice, but they're cheap and reliable.

It's currently been about 50 degrees and it has not been working much ... How would I know what to resoulder without anything being broke ?? Also how would I check to see if the plugs are getting a good connection ?? Would really like to keep the stock speedo on it if at all possible

Its a POS mine broke after 1260 miles and 6 months of ownership (2 months of actual use due to winter) replaced it with a Trail Tech Vapor

There is a shop in Calgary,Alberta named ProSpeedo that will repair stock DRZ400 digital speedo/instrument clusters.Ask for Dwayne. They accept repairs for DRZ's from the U.S. as well.I'm in the process of trying to find a local shop to fix mine and I'm waiting for a response from several inquiries around the country.
