Johnny Aubert to ride Beta in EWC.

Just what Beta needed, a solid, experienced guy to come in and help with development and exposure. Too bad they didn't get David Knight as well

Edited by thebob_za

My dream was to see Salminen in the last year with beta, to help the team in the developement.

Knight is very fast but i think he could be impossible to live with...

Salminen was on a Husqvarna for all sorts of reasons, but it would have been great to see him on a Beta.

I think Dougie Lampkin and the Hemingway brothers are sticking with a Beta. All three brought them to the finish in (hellish) Erzberg this year.

Knighter switched to endurocross.

Beta is getting more and more exposure in the Enduro and extreme enduro/endurocross.

I've counted around 25 entrants in this years ISDE. Mostly 2t 300, but a few 350, 450 and 500.

For reference, there were about the same number of Husqvarnas. About 60  Hondas and Yamahas and 280 KTMs+Husabergs.

I'm behind.. I thought Lampkin went to GASGAS? Good news that he's back. Wait.. i think you may have been on a UK thread.  It looks like gasgas here.

It looks pretty similar being red and white in the mud and Lampkin was riding Beta before. Unless it's changed since?

Aubert is a great pick up for Beta! I'm looking forward to the next WEC and more name recognition along with having some fun following racing.

Holy crap! He sure has had a bunch of injuries and come back!

Yeah, you are right.

Lampkin is still on GasGas. I bundled him with the two Hemingways who were on Beta 300.

While I'm looking at the Erzberg start list here are some more stats:

KTM: 316

Husaberg: 70

GasGas: 28

Beta: 22

Yamaha: 15

Honda: 11

Husqvarna: 10

Kawasaki: 8

Suzuki: 7

Sherco: 7

Very similar distribution to the ISDE even if those are two completely different races.

Really that's a lot of Beta bikes in there considering . It's more than I think a lot of people would expect. I would figure there might be more husky. There's a million ktm and husaberg on top . I was figuring there would be way more gasgas too .

i did not go at Hell's Gate this year but a friend told me there was so much Betas in the paddock!

WEC is now basically MX with a timetable, to be competitive you need a solid MX derivative (honda,etc...) or a full factory KTM.
For this reason i think is stunning what Meo did two years ago with Azzalin's Husky 310...

But he won the overall in france on the last race with a EXC125, i think he could win even with my Vespa...

I've watched some video of earlier years and some of this year.. It's crazy hard!!!! It's looking not rideable in a bunch of sections with ropes and people helping!!! It looks brutal and quite entertaining.

Andra Mancini's Beta:

Interesting design. I wonder how those pegs work.

How's the guy riding a 70's Bultaco Frontera in this rally race!!!  #48 Ignacio!! That's a lot of trust. My Bultaco's from that era were the least reliable bikes I've had. They looked great and handled well for the time though. Still I love that it's running in this race!!!!! YEA Aircooling!!!!

Wow... There's more BETA than I thought running.   7 out of 54...

Last week was Rally Morocco and Merzouga this week. They are warm up for Dakar in three months. That's when the mad house opens.

Unlike the rest of the AdvRider, rally enthusiast are very knowledgeable and entertaining  bunch. There are many who did/are doing these races, their mechanics and family members contributing.

a friend (who works as paramedic) did the Merzouga last year in support of the riders with a KTM690, and enjoyed very much.

I think it will do nothing but good for the development of the Beat 4 stroke range having Johnny on board, . :ride:  Can't wait to see him race next season.
