i have a yamaha 2 stroke 250 and cant figure out if it is a yz or wr, any ideas ?

The 1993 WR 250 had the same plastic as the 1991 and 1992 YZ & WR while the 1993 YZ had the new plastic used from 1993 to 1995 on the YZ and until 1997 or 1998 on the WR.

The easiest way to tell with out seeing a picture is by the engine #, which will start with a 3 character code that yamaha uses ti id models(ie 1lx is a 1986 YX 125, 3JDis a 1989 YZ 250 etc) This code also appears as the 4th, 5th and 6th items in the vin #. Yamaha vins start with JYA then the code and then end with the bike's serial number. On Yamahas, the vin and engine numbers should match.

Anyway, if you post that code, we can figure out what the bike is.

Looks like a WR from the pic, mostly due to the huge tank haha!

I think it may be a WR .  iv looked online and cant seem to find any 93 model with these front and rear finders or seat. lol

If the bike tops out in the 65mph range (or thereabouts), its a yz. If if pushes closer to 80mph, its a wr.

The closer I look, it appears possbly to be a YZ with an oversized tank. Look how far the seat goes up the stock WR tank vs the seat height on the YZ

Need some more detail, and check the wheel size as stated above. The WR and YZ have a few small things to let you know they are different for sure
