Cam timing issues!

Recommended Posts

No new cam chain. When I put the cam cover on a rotate the engine. The exhaust valves stick open and the camshaft quites turning. Seems like the cam chain is not on the bottom gear! I tied it up but it must have slipped off during the build. When I rotate the cam shaft timing is a little off every time I go to check it again.

Sounds like you need to pull the clutch cover and have a look to make sure. If I was going through the trouble of a big bore kit and new cam I would have atleast replaced the cam chain as well as the cam mounted sprocket. Let us know when you figure it out.

Yes I am going to pull the clutch cover off and look. I am going to replace the chain and sprockets and the cam chain tensioner and spring. I never had this problem with my last xr. This chain was a lot tighter too. Thank you for the help
