2011 KTM 50 SXS Won't Kick

Recommended Posts

My son was racing yesterday and the engine stalled coming down a straight away.  Now the kick starter won't budge at all.  Where do I start looking?  Thanks.

Most likely, your top end is seized in the jug :( I would take the head off to see if you have any loose pieces on top of the piston (piston damage) or if it just the piston locked up in the cylinder.

Next pull the jug, but, depending on the gravity of the seize, you might have to bang out the piston with a rubber mallet or something similar.

On my shifters, when we have had seizures, it wasn't too bad at all. Removed the jug like mentioned above then cleaned the inside bore with muradic acid. The piston might leave traces of aluminum on the cylinder wall, which the muradic acid will remove (bad stuff though so be careful when using it). Then get a new top end.

If you have a damaged piston (in pieces) then you probably will have to tear down the whole engine to make sure you don't have pieces in your bottom end.
