What do the top extreme enduro riders use for a rear tire?

My 0.02, and a sample size if like 4, but folks I know who've run the 110 absolutely shredded it after a handful of rides. Knobs torn off, everything. The couple guys I know who've run the 120 (myself included) didn't have any of those problems. I got 450 miles out of my 120 (50% worn), and was very pleased with it. But none of us have run both the 110 and 120.

It's enough of a data point that I won't be trying the 110. Whereas before, I was a little concerned that the 120 was too big/heavy for my 350. But the 130 M5B is also a big tire (my current tire), but doesn't do as well as the 525 in slick conditions.

Ran two 525 110’s and got both about 25-30hrs out of them. The knobs did rip off but for the price I am quite happy with it! Have used a Ef07 double green and ibex and only getting about 10hrs out of them for considerably more money. Went with the 110 as my used bib was just to soft for anything bigger.

This was the second last ride on this 110 525. It happened to pour during his ride and the tire still did awesome!

Holy shit. This is my 120 525 after 450 miles and 30-35 hours. Obviously everyone's different - riding style, terrain, etc. but this is just one more data point for me that the 120 lasts like twice as long.

Have you had the Shinko 525 cheater 110 and 120 beside each other? Ran acouple 110 525’s this summer, awesome tire. Just ordered a 120 525 and it looks huge compared to the 110. Not just in size but even the lugs seem a lot bigger. Now my 110 is quite worn but wondering if there really that much different??  Looks more like a irc m5b!

Yes, the 120/100 525 is a much better tyre. It doesnt throw knobs like the 110 525 (anywhere near as easily).

The 525, while the same compound as the 505, is a bit stiffer sidewall and crown.

Is that even the Cheater? The wear looks like the regular 525

Dang! Probably would've taken me 1000 miles to make my tire look that bad.

A friend did the same thing to two 525's in like 4 or 5 ride's. She was running a (too big) mousee and the tire was like 20psi hard, over working the soft knobs.

Defiantly both 110 525 cheaters with a fairly soft bib, ~8psi equivalent.

Heres a ibex with 10hrs. Tire work really good but not worth it.

Also a side by side with the 525 110 and the new 120. I could see how the lugs would last on the 120 there much bigger and the spacing is a bit smaller.

Planning on running my 110 525 Cheater 6ish to 12ish PSI and same as my 110 505 Cheater

Not sure about the 110, but I ran my 120 at 4-5psi. 12 I would think would be way too high, and would shred the knobs in no time (especially since it's the 110).

Great pic to compare the 110 and 120. I think I will go to a 525 on my next tire. I tried the 505 last year and it seemed like it packed up too quickly in muddy situations.  My next ride will probably be Mattawa, and my M5B will definitely do Ok in the sand, it needs to be flipped 180, not sure on the rocky washes with the cold weather though.

Ya not sure where you live but on the west coast of BC where i live/ride its lower PSI but I occasionally ride the interior of BC where I find I need to run slightly higher PSI's but only for EDIT (5 or so days trips once or twice a summer)  and I think I was running the 505 at like 10ish

I've posted this many times in tire topics and IMO with UHD tubes I've really been playing with PSI in my tires and it depending on tires/terrain/riding style etc it can make a HUGE difference and i find I run lower PSI's than my buddies but I'm also try different tires a lot more.

PSI is easy/cheap to try (carry a gauge and a small dual action hand pump if you really want to play around) and I haven't had a pinch flat in like 6 years ?

Haven't really found the 110 505 packed up more than any other tire but was interested to try the 110 525 to compare and I'm now thinking I should have gone 120 BUT I've really only ever used 110's will now start playing with 120's ?

This is were I found the 505 fell down.  Sticky mud and when it was loose and dry.  I did not like it here in Kamloops for summer riding.

Who uses the 525 cheater as a hare scramble tire, Im thinking of taking my starcross 5 off and just running the 525 cheater only.. I've ran it on a extreme enduro and loved it around 5psi. I was thinking of running like 10psi on hare scrambles i ride B pace and i've seen A riders use trails tires and make it work just wondering because once my starcross knobs got rounded it went down hill and it packs with mud pretty bad, i figure the cheater tire even worn out will still stick better or am i wrong.

Ya I put my first 505 cheater on before the July long weekend 5 day trip to Duffy/Kamloops in 2017 honestly at a higher PSI I really liked the tire. its now Nov 2018 and haven't been riding as much as I normally do but I still have the 505 on and shocked at how well its held up (after a flip) and really I could probably ride it all winter if we don't get tons of snow on the coast.

As I've said and IMO it all comes down to terrain/riding style. As far a muddy/slop goes its been raining here non stop for about 2 weeks and there are going to be some axle deep muddy/snotty trail sections in Squampton and I can ride with 5 dudes with 5 different tire setups and when we stop ALL the tire's will be completely clogged with mud. Then its being out front and how fast to can spin the tires to get the mud off and cover your bud behind you ?

505 Cheater today and on since July 2017 (I guess I need to ride more ) ?

I personally wouldn't. Tire will wear super fast at high speeds.
