Considering it as a 'long distance' scouting vehicle.

70% pavement, 200 mile loops.

Besides, KTM is not really a company I trust after the experiences I've had with them.

Sorry you've had bad luck with KTM, My 950 ADV is the best bike I've ever owned And I've owned a ton of bikes.

 I don't see ever getting rid of it.

Ive seen your post, read many.  

Knew you would say no way to a KTM.

 

 

I personally could care less of threads have some 

levels of inner circle of communication.  For some reason

you limited tolerance to that.  Actually I never called you a name,

I called a behavior.  Stand by it too.

 

That said I know of no bad bike on the market in that category. 

I have looked at both close up and rode one of them.  The KTM

is the better off road bike by a wide margin, a lot wider then the 

margin of the BMW being better then street.

I have some time with a BMW 650GS Sertao.  I rode a friends a while back when I was considering getting a dual sport that would be a commuter.  I understand the BMW is a very good road bike and lacks bit in the dirt.  That was fine for what I was looking for back then as I was primarily looking at something I could ride long distances with good fuel mileage and occasionally take a smooth dirt road for exploring.  The KTM is a fine bike and is definately a better dirt bike than the BMW but if the bike was going to only rairly see dirt then the BMW makes more sense.  Ultimately I changed my mind and decided not to get a commuter bike.

 

Also there is nothing wrong with not liking a particular brand.  When it comes to cars I a MOPAR guy.  I dislike imports and I dislike Chevys.  You can bring up reasons why I am wrong until you are blue in the face.  I like what I like.  As far as the KTM. The OP had a bad experience with them.  Just because he doesnt like them doesnt mean you have to agree.  Just let it go and move on.  If you had something to contribute as BMW enthusiest then contribute.

I didn't ask a question about KTM.

I didn't bring up KTM.

I already know about KTM.

I've already ridden (or owned) a 690, a 950, a Super duke, a 500 XC-W, a 450 EXC, and a 450 SXF. 

I don't like the way they handle, and I don't like the way they are built, their warranty policies, and the way they limit access to technical information.

That's my opinion, and it's not negotiable, because it's an opinion.

It's not BS, it's the facts as I have experienced them.

I'm not a newbie to any KTM, having worked on them and ridden them since 2003.

I like the 2006/7 KTM's alright: back when they handled, had normal size ergos, and had a wide power band.

 

I'm not a professional racer, and I'm not interested in the endless minutia covered in that forum about every rider and race.

It's like listening to Sports radio: B O R I N G !

It's like comparing music or bands.....there is no right answer.

I'd love to have a klr650 with hardcore suspension.  Maybe a touch more power.  I rode with a guy who rode a BMW800GS pretty hard on some wider rocky trails.  I think with good tires it would be a great scouting vehicle.  It's not to heavy but what do I know.  I wouldn't want to swing my leg over one unless I could beat on it and maybe drop it a couple times.

The KLR is way too slow  and un-civllized for me. 

I need at least 50 hp for 275 lbs, and 80 for 400 lbs.
