Valve Cover Sealant?

When removing & replacing the valve cover for a valve check, do you use a sealant like Permatex or Yamabond? 1 friend does & another doesn't. Out here in dusty Arizona it has been suggested using sealant is a precautionary method. What does the forum think? Thx in advance for the suggestions.

"Preparation

1. Your valve cover gasket and chain tensioner gasket can be reused. Get some Permatex 6B RTV Silicon to re-seal the valve cover gasket as per manual."

i have used Permatex 6B thrice and every time it has worked to perfection.

Whaen I look at the manual, am I reading it right? It looks like it shows to only apply sealant on the bottom of the gasket, only around the timing chain compartment side of the gasket around the half moons?

yes; no more, no less. it will work out fine.
