CDI unit

Hey I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the CDI controls on a 2001 Yamaha YZ? If anyone could help that would be great, cheers. :)

CDI stands for Capacitor Discharged Ignition. So the CDI controls the Ignition, or "spark" of the engine. Is this what you were asking?

Yes and no, there are wires going to the carbi and I was wondering what they controlled? Thank you for replying :)

Those are the TPS, or Throttle Position Sensor.

The TPS helps the CDI know how much spark advance to send to the engine so that the engine can run optimally. Some people remove this carb and run something else that doesn't have the TPS, and notice no difference in how the engine runs.

Thanks so much this helps so much. Cheers.
