old XT/TT 600 camshaft upgrade

Hi-anyone upgraded their camshaft setup to either bearings or shells?...I don't like the stock idea-cam directly rolling on the head its self

You may not like the idea , but that same idea has been working in motors for longer than you've been alive and working very well . Some of those motors are high RPM / high output motors . DOHC cam shafts run at half the RPMs of the crank .

 

You could change the set up , but it would not be much of an improvement as the cam shafts very rarely wear out if a decent maintenance schedule is followed .

 

Simply changing the oil twice as often will put you a lot farther ahead , with the added benefit of better lubrication of the whole motor .

 

Just my opinion ... ?

The only consistent thing that really wears out the current setup is lack of oil, usually from not checking oil level as required. If quality oil is used and changed frequently plus kept at recommended level the camshaft and journals will last 75,000 to 100,000 pretty easily.

cool-not such an issue then,however is relieving the cam journals a gd idea to enhance lubrication-seen is done to an xr500a mtr.........just a diagonal trench about 1mm deep

Maybe , but why ? 75 - 100K isn't good enough ? ?
