TRAIL READY 13 CRF 450R?

I have a 450R that I am about redo the front and rear suspension. I'm taking to Factory connection in NH to have this done. I'm 2 70 lbs 6'" I'd say I have intermediate to advanced riding skills on trails. I do not ride tracks. I was wanting the CRF450x and they were out of stock.nwedkezs to say I couldn't wait and got the track bike. So I have done some minor upgrade but nothing substantial because 9 lack of knowledge on what to do to make my bike trail worthy. Thus far skid moose racing skid plate, acerbis hand gaurds and body plastic, hammer head shifter and brake lever, pro-taper grips,Twin air power flow kit and filter, DiD top of the line Chain and, Tag sprocket same tooth count as stock, and sadly enough that's it. I want new levers for clutch and brake. Eventually I'm going to have replace everything cause I'm not getting rid if the bike and it would be good to get some experienced riders advice on what parts and uogrades i should start with now and plan on later. I live on an island Giligand style of the coast of MA. So there isnt really a seen that i can ride with and get advice. I need a trustworthy mechanic that I can take it to if need be.'ll take as much as you all can give. Ty..

I assume you bought an x-ring chain? You're gonna love the bike in the woods. You might wanna go 12T in the front. Get a Pro Moto Billet kickstand and some barkbusters. I think I have an extra larger capacity fuel tank and a nice bar/buster setup if you need those. If you can get to CT you can come on a ride with us in a month or two.

Thanks for that qyick reply, I did get an X ring chain DID 520 ERV3. I do have gaurds but not like this Bark busters those are sweet. I would love to come up for a ride but I live on Martha Vineyard so it would have to. Do Weekend thing to make it worth it, plus I'll have to find a spot to stay. I got a buddy I ride with he might come but usually we drive off Cape cod in Plymouth Ma. I need a a mechanic my man. You work on bikes?

I don't have too much info on that bike but I'm picking up one in a couple months so after you get some good seat time in if you could let us know how it is in the woods that'd be great. And Eddie, where/what do you ride in CT? I live in Haddam, so I ride Rocky Hill Mx, NETRA, NESC, and this year JDays, but we're always lookin for some new riding spots.

Great woods bikes!!! Better with motor and suspension work. At 230lb naked, I actually found the stock 2013 forks were pretty good for the woods, but far too soft for MX.

PM me if you wanna ride, track or woods. I was at Rocky Hill yesterday and do the NETRA TR when I have a street-legal bike. I hit all the good tracks within a few hrs drive of central CT.

Save your cash, get a sercive manual and a good torque wrench and do it right yourself. These things are easy to work on.

I've brought my bikes to Manchester Honda KTM several times and have always been happy with their work. I know 1 or 2 of the guys there and their good mechanics. That seems a little far from you though??

And Eddie thanks for the info, it'll either be a 13, 14, or leftover 12 for me haven't decided yet. And how was Rocky Hill, did he change the layout at all?

Rocky was run as a partial track due to the flooded "infield" areas, so it was a little switched up. Great time, got the bike washed just before the steady rain started coming down.

well good news!

your forks can work properly,

they don't make fork springs big enough for 270lbs

you need .56 they only make to .52

at 180 i run a .50!

 

and for the suspension i would see MR. Wilkey at MX tech.  They do some truly great stuff over there vs. other company just re-shimming.

your forks may need a different balance spring.

 

if your fine with range your fine. but i found my 09 to not go very far on the stock 1.5 gallon tank! and went with an oversized tank

but i did like the feel of the small tank better.

 

@ 6ft you might want to consider lowered pegs

and maybe a top triple clamp that allows forwards bar mount options.

 

a heavy flywheel will make it more x like. you may not need one as a 13 went heavier already vs a 9-12

 

depending on your style, but likely also because of your weight you might want to upgrade the clutch.

there's many options.  from automatic clutch (really neat), to slipper/btl clutches, to 08 oem clutch hybrids deepening on what you like

The 2013 450 has air forks, no springs required...

You can get any weight spring made for you for about $149

Or, You just take a .52 and make it shorter, and use a pvc spacer.

i think he was replying to my comment that the OP is lucky to have air forks at his weight, because if he succeed in buying a 450x as he originally planned he wouldn't be able to find a suitable off the shelf fork springs for his weight.
