08 kx450f hard to start

Recommended Posts

OK, well my 08 kx450f has been giving me a headache lately. I cleaned the carb, new plug, and checked the valve clearance, and it still takes forever to start... It wants to fire on the first 15 or so kicks but seems like its not getting enough fuel.. Once it finally fire up it runs fine, has all it power.. any ideas?

pulled the bowl off, took all the jets out, carb cleaner and compressed air to clean any gunk that may have been in them

Ok, that is only half of the carb....

When you 'clean' a carb you usually have to dismantle all of it, not just the bottom

You also usually need to replace the fuel screw oring, and apump diagphragm

- hot start

- choke

- apump

- apump nozzle

- air jet

- power jet

Classic symptom of intake valves that are out of adjustment, or leaking.

Re shim.

Define 'cleaned carb' ??

well I re-shimed and the valves are dead-on factory specs now, but it still is giving me problems starting.... once it finally fires up she runs great, turn it off and anywhere from 8-18 kicks later it will run again
