Welding repair on engine case

Recommended Posts

I've got an 06 kx250f and I broke a little piece off the inside off the engine case. It keeps you from pushing the shifter to far but I broke it off so now my shifter doesn't centre itself once I shift. I was told it is possible to tig weld it but I need to know what alloy it is. Any answers?

I've attached a picture and circled the break in the case.

Should be alloy being the crankcase not magnesium so it should be able to be Tig welded providing the engine is stripped and cleaned adequately and the heat is not going to affect any other components.

OR, you can clean it really good and J B weld it in place.  Providing no forces are used by it.

How much does a new case cost?  They usually run around $250.  Is that totally unreasonable?

I do know the approximate cost of a 1989 250 honda,MX bike, center case, ONE SIDE is about $580 bucks..  ad to that all the time to completely disassemble the engine and remove it from the frame, and all the OTHER work involved, and IT SUCKS... PATCH that bitch, then sell it.
