Pumper carb start

Recommended Posts

Hello,  just got the pumper carb put on the XR400 and all i can say is wow.  Best mod ive done.  The initial response on the throttle is amazing and it really wants to lift that wheel up in 1,2 ,3 gears.  I know the protocol on the old carb for starting but is there a different start technique for the pumper?

No, TDC and kick it through. Should start easier. One or two kixks every time if everything is setup right. Mine came with the pumper installed. I also have the stock carb but... ya, thing is a beast!!! Make sure you use the choke when cold and no throttle. A little twist of the throttle is ok if you think you need it through. Enjoy your pumper and good luck keeping that front wheel down in 1 and 2!! Lol!!

Yeah, the same start routine we use with the stock carb works with the pumper, but unlike the stock carb, when the pumper won't start right away, you can twist the throttle at the bottom of your kick and it will come alive.
