Cr250 First and neutral Only after a ride

FML, was ripping around today on a FSR, stopped to top up fuel and now I only have 1st and neutral. Urg!! I really don't want to split the case as the bottom end was redone last spring. I haven't looked at it yet just got home. Anything I should check before I think about splitting the case?

Also, how warm should the gearbox get? Mine was warm, borderline hot. I could hold my hand on it but barely?

Investigated a bit just now...

Drained oil, no metal and the oil was fresh.

I'm figuring the selector linkages or springs have come loose. I wiggled the selector and I heard and felt a pop, and I'm stuck in 1st or second now.

Looks like I'm pulling the clutch and outer cover. Seems this happens a bunch according to Internet research.

I will update when I open her up
