2005 yz250f drain bolt help!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what size the drain bolt is for the 2005 for the cases? I bought my bike 2 weeks ago, doing an oil change today and found that the bolt was a 17mm. The issue I have here is that there isn't enough clearance between the bolt head and the frame for me to fit a socket. I managed to use a crescent wrench and finally worked it off. I'm trying to find a solution to this other than to have to this every time. I feel like it probably isn't OEM bolt. It is a an actually drain plug though because it doesn't have the magnet to catch metal shavings. I went to the local hardware store and they don't seem to make a m10 bolt with a smaller head. And they're bolts that do accept hex keys don't come in m10/1.25 pitch. So right now it seems I'm SOL.

Can't you just use a 17 mm box end or a ratcheting box end? I have an 09 and it has a 12 mm drain plug but there is no way you could get a socket on it. There just isn't room because it screws in from the side and the frame is in the way.
