Bottom fork bolt spinning

Recommended Posts

Changing fork seals today got to the bottom bolt and it just spins. Won't re tighten if tried. Reinstalled spring and cap turned upside down for pressure and same result. Any suggestions on how to remove this bolt? Thanks in advance.

Hey Chris, not sure if you solved your problem yet, but mog is right, you need to use an impact wrench on the base valve unless you have the tool that holds the cartridge from the inside. The impact wrench turns it fast enough that you don't need the tool. I just rebuilt my Kayaba forks on my '06 WR and had the same issue. Hope this helps.

Impact wrench unless you have the tool to hold cartridge.

Be careful when assembling no to over tight

Good deal so the bolt came out after quite some time of fiddling with it. Looks like upon assembly the bolt doesn't tighten like the other fork bottom bolt does. Instead it just spins and doesn't press the thin copper washer in between, but instead just spins the inside of the dampener rod.
