New head and SS valve ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I bought new cylinder head and new SS valves (Pro X) for both Ex, IN to rebuild my baby.

So, do I need to lap the valve or just fit everything together ??

You probably dont have to but its not a bad idea to lap the new valves in with some fine lapping compound, if you do make sure to clean everything up real good after doing so.

Thanks buddy, because one of my friend told me I need to do new seat cut even if it's new head because the new head made for Ti valves not SS, but I didn't believe him

I would have to agree with your friend.

When you cut your seats you send the valves with the head so the machinist can match the valve angles and surfaces with those specific valves for optimum contact and longevity. You may get away with the seats as is, or try lapping them, but do you really want to potenially sacrifice valve life by taking a short cut ?

you do not need to lap the valves with a new head just assemble it with lube
