2003 Yz125 600$ and runs mint! But....

Recommended Posts

My buddys offering me his 03 yz for 600$ but its in bad condition. He probably cleaned the filter and did engine fluids 4-5 times in the span hes had it, and its well over 60 hours on the topend. The bike still runs mint, first kick starts and as fast as my friends ported and polished cr125 (ridden both a handful of times)

Bottom line, i would drop a new topend but what else could be associated with this abuse... I would like to drop a total of a grand altogether into it but is that feasible?

I would do all work myself but this would be my first 2 stroke ive owned.

Sorry for long post but ive been considering all of this for a while thanks.

Since it is a buddy, see if he will let you pull the cylinder.  The big money risks would be: bad rod bearing and/or bad crank bearings and also a scored cylinder. (I've bought a 2-stroke that seemed to run ok, and when i pulled the cylinder it was scored and needed replaced).

The other big money items that can really add up are suspension bearings, wheel bearings, loose spokes.

If all that stuff checks out decent, just throw a piston and ring in and have fun !

Thanks for the info, I took a quick overview of it today, and it leaks alot of gas from the carb runoffs upon start up and running.also the plastic over the airfilter came off and I guess he rode it for 5 or so hours like that. When he replaced the airfilter it was ripped and completely black. I guess im wondering if the leakage would be associated with it sucking in dirt and what would be engine probs associated with it taking in dirt? Thanks

he says the bike is fast and runs good so why would their e a scored cylinder or bad bearings?
