kips vent question...07kx100

Recommended Posts

Remove the vent hose, and with the bike running, how much exhaust is normal to be coming out of vent tube?

O.k. two questions. What are signs of reed valve failure?

Thanks in advance

Normally, there shouldn't be any exhaust coming out of the breather tube. Exhaust coming out of there means that the powervalve doesn't have a perfect seal. This happens when cold, often, but once the bike is hot, it should go away. If it doesn't go away, or there is a large amount of exhaust coming out, the valve needs to be cleaned of all carbon deposits.

Removing and cleaning the powervalve isn't hard, but making sure it all goes together exactly the same way is. Use a service manual, take pictures after each part is taken off, and label all pieces. A brass wire brush or a scotch brite pad along with a bunch of WD-40 should deal with the buildup relatively easily.

Thanks 75mx125

It's a lot of exhaust blowing out of there. I'll have to warm it up and see if it changes/goes away.

Kind of surprising to think there would be that much carbon buildup with so few hours on the motor.

With 60 views of this thread I wonder how many guys went out fired up their bikes and put their finger by

the end of the vent hose to check
