Made the "wrong plug mistake" now chain is loose

Recommended Posts

Pulled the wrong plug on my 2000 xr70, looked up the diagram and put everything back in correctly but the cam chain is loose now. How can I get the tension back right? Bike runs fine with any amount of RPM just "slapping" at low/idle. timing marks are lined up. I looked through the threads on this topic but no one had my exact issue. Thanks in advance for any assistance on this matter.

Wrong plug ?

Wrong heat range? Wrong length?

What brand/model of plug was installed by mistake.

What does Honda specify for this application?

Edit: After re-reading your OP, I suspect you are NOT

talking about spark plugs. Rather, it looks like you might

mean that you unintentionally loosened the cam chain

tensioner mechanism - yes ?

Well, if there is still slap, then you are missing something for the tensioner.  I am guess it is the spring.  It goes tensioner rod, spring, and then the plug.

First time I changed one I did the same thing.  It happens.
