Changing oil

Recommended Posts

I'm changing the oil in my 05 crf250r and I don't know if I should run hp4 or gn4 20w50, or if I need to run both one in the trans and one in the crank case, what should I do???

I use hp4 (gold bottle) in the trans and the crank. Works great, haven't had any issues with it, it's the only oil I would put in my bike.

Ive never had an issue using AMSOIL 10w-40 in my 05 crf250r but from what ive heard Rotella T Triple Protection 15w-40 is an awesome oil

The HP4 oil i have heard is really good, but don't use the HP4M in the gear box. The moly in it could cause the clutch to slip.

Our manuals call for 10w30 in cold weather and 10w40 in warm weather, our engines use piston cooling jets of oil under the piston. A 20w50 may comprimise that piston cooling. I know some guys say they use it without problems, but i figure the engineer's are smarter than i am.
