Crank and case texturing: What to use?

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I bought a 2002 CR125 that needs some work and already split the cases to change the cranks and bearings. While In there I noticed that somehow all the ports have some kind of a polished look (think it's previous owners doing).

I would like to rough them up a little to have better atomisation and hopefully better low end response. My question is, what is everyone using to do so?

I am not unfamiliar with porting as I have done some intake and exhaust manifold for my car but nothing extensive. Would an abrasive rock on a dremel be enough? Space seems to be tight and limited.

Thanks

A little sand paper and your finger would be plenty to rough up a polished port. Don't use anything that will remove significant material from the port unless you actually want to change the shape and size of the port (which I would not recommend doing unless you know what you are doing).
