fully restored 87 yz250

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, hows it....? Well I have a question I have a fully restored 87 yz 250 its all new, when I was ordering new Maier plastics the only tank I could find was a Clark oversize tank. I love the tank its jet black matches my plastics n was very expensive it has maybie 6 rides on it.... Well thing is I wanted a stock tank but couldn't find a good used one n I'm bout tapped out n just had a baby ( profile pic above)boy n I just gotta ask any one out anyone at all have a cheap 86-87 yz250 stock tank... Or ill trade my new Clark oversize gas tank for ur old stock tank... Thanks for ur time n plz spread the word.... Ps ny exaust valves on my 01 yz250f r out of spec at .25 intakes fine,,, there is a slight but faint metalic clickin noise from head .. Is this what ut is my cam lobe slappin my valve bucket from to much clearance... What possible harm can be done just from it being at .25 (17-22) is spec.... Will it hurt anything riding till I reshim these valves I feel like the noise is the valve slap.... Thanks again

The noise is probably the valve slap like you mentioned. I would venture to guess that no harm would be done by riding it as is. You are just barely out of spec (on the good side!), so typically it's just a little bit more noisey. At super high rpm's, the valve does tend to get "slapped" open when the valve clearance is large, instead of being more gently opened when the clearance is in spec. In extreme cases, this might cause some valve float issues, at those high rpm's, so don't rev it super high until you can get them back in spec.

Hey thanks... I really appreciate that, im liking this thumper talk forum i always reaf it.... N yeah cool thays everything i thought, is exactly what u saud n yes i dont rev it high if i ride it till it gets hot n u no what i mean it starts to get a lil louder n more as i crank the throttle ive always heard its ki,da goid to hear the valves right??? Beacause atleast they r not tight... Thanks.... N what exactly is valve float im pretty handy n good with mechanical abilitys n actually did my first restore on the yz250 n shimmed my valves on 250f just from a few videos i watched ,,i was always scared to get into a four stroke but once u get the timi,g n valves down its pretty much gravy from there... So valve float or floating a valve what exactly is this n what can happen if it does occur????......
