Are my reeds bad?

Recommended Posts

I have 99 cr125 that just started to act wierd. The Rpms will not drop after I pull in the clutch and it has no powerband and it will hardly not start. So I read that my top end might need to be rebuilt so I did a compression test and with 10 kicks cold it was 180 psi. So I heard that your reeds can get cracks and it can do that so I took them out and I'm going to take them to a shop tomorrow but I thought I could see what you guys think about them here's some pics.ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734609.292917.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734630.648061.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734654.744611.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734672.014536.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734704.477835.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734721.485517.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734737.478447.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1398734751.213069.jpg

You can look at the inside when they are mounted in the cage held up to the light. If you see cracks of light i'd replace the pedals .

There should be an allowable gap spec between the reed valves and the reed cage (the area you are seeing light) the owners manual/service manual will have the spec, you just use a set of feeler gauges and go from there. Make sure the mounting screw is torqued to spec. I had a slight amount of light that shinned through on a KX85, measured, and it was well within spec. Also make sure they are clean and crack free I am not a pro by any means but they look like they have pretty good amount of gap and wear. Hopefully someone else can chime in.....

My local shop said that I could flip them and it would help. I'm trying to get a quick solution because I'm gonna trade it when I get it fixed.
