Older vs newer DRZ 400E?

Recommended Posts

I have read the older DRZ's had pumper carb's, hotter cams & more compression. I am in the market (I am in CA) for a DRZ 400. I am coming across more newer DRZ's that are in better condition than their older counterparts. After derestricing are the newer models noticibly slower? I have my eye on a clean 2006 and a 2001 for the same price but the 06' is super clean whereas the 01' looks lts age. Thanks.

Another option is to look for a newer model with the E upgrades .

Or they could just move to Australia :aussy:  and buy a 2014 real E :p

Sorry to hijack but it's pretty interesting.

I was under he impression that there were three 4 Drz

Sm

S

E

K

Perhaps there are further variants I don't know of.

My friend has a bike that registered at an E but is kick start only, no key etc. it even says on it 'not for highway use'..

Perhaps that's a mis labelled K?

Nope... no DRZ's available in the UK any more..

No idea why - maybe emissions...

........and I've told you Aussies before - you have never had a real E down there. It's an SE at best. :p

You may have the E engine but there's an awful lot of S stuff kicking around on your so called "Real E's".. :jawdrop:

:ride:

So has anyone ridden the

00-06 49 state E and 00-03 K have the better cams,FCR carb and more compression.

If it's got a mikuni carb as stock it's the lower spec current S/SM engine

So has anyone ridden both bikes? How does the power output compare?
